West Leeds Dispatch readers, visitors and friends have rallied to help the Leeds City Mission Compassion Centre in Armley sell a grand total of 78 Real Easter Eggs.
WLD highlighted the seasonal project organised by the charity to sell the unique easter eggs. Produced by the Meaningful Chocolate Company, they were the only ethical eggs on sale in the UK.
The chocolate was all Fairtrade and palm oil free and the box had no plastic. It also contained a 24-page picture story & activity book on the easter story inside the box.
A donation from every sale was made by Meaningful Chocolate Company to charities – in contrast to all other easter eggs on sale in the UK which were entirely for profit.
Leeds City Mission Hub Manager Sinclair Martin thanked everyone who had made the Real Easter Egg their choice over the holiday season.
He said that this was a worthwhile project and everyone had benefitted – cocoa producers in Africa, charities in the UK and scores of children who had enjoyed eating delicious chocolate with a charitable purpose.
Leeds City Mission is one of the oldest charities in the city being in continuous existence since 1837. It is a multi-church Christian agency running a range of projects to benefit residents in the West Leeds area.
