Sir;- I’d like to offer some thoughts one month after the local elections.
I would like to thank the 1,712 people in Armley who placed their vote for me, and many others who wished to but due the electoral ID situation were unable to.
I appreciate the fact that many of you and I include myself in this were voting Green for the first time, having been lifelong Labour Party voters. I will be forever grateful for the level of support which was given to me.
Working with the community during my four-year term as an Armley councillor was a real privilege and one that I loved with my heart and soul. There have been highs and lows, sadness and joy, but I can honestly say that it’s the best job I have ever had.
I was an active member of the Armley community before becoming a councillor and that hasn’t changed – I’ll continue my involvement with the many amazing and varied volunteer groups that Armley is lucky to have, including the Armley Action Team and Friends of Armley and Gotts Park, and continue to focus on the good stuff that our community thrives on.
Armley, thank you for having me.
- Lou Cunningham, Armley
Lou was only ever a Facebook Councillor.
If you didn’t have Facebook, you wouldn’t know she existed.
What a spiteful, silly and patently untrue comment, Joseph! Where have you been? Clearly not at community events, litter picks, surgeries, public meetings like Armley Forum that Lou was at?
You clearly don’t go to community events or otherwise you’d have seen her, so stop embarrassing yourself.
Labour apologists like yourself who trot out and vote for the same complacent councillors year after year are the reason Armley is in the state of seemingly terminal decline that is is.
Oh dear, who are you trying to kid?
Lou was the hardest working of all of them and is Armley’s loss.
What a horrendous thing to say. Lou was constantly out in the community.
I count myself amongst many local people who are privileged and honored to know Louise personally.
I met her through the various volunteer groups in armley. Lou was always in attendance at local events.
Unlike other councilors Lou was prepared to shovel shit if it improved armley. She inspired a lot of us to shovel shit too not just moan about it. We wanted a better armley Lou showed us the way
She’s still leading us to a better armley
Thanks Louise
Thanks for this Lou, You certainly have my support (and my vote – yes a first time Green supporter). Its been lovely to see how much you support local initiatives and local volunteers, always pulling your weight and getting your hands dirty!! Absolutely NOT just a facebook councillor – someone who makes things happen and sorts out issues for people.
I’ve seen Lou Cunningham picking up dog poo in the park, at every event, talking to people in town street. I’ve never seen a councillor so easy to reach or responsive by any/all contact methods.
Joseph’s comment doesn’t surprise me as Armley labour ran a nasty little campaign of utter crap and harassment on Facebook which got several removed from groups.
They should be very ashamed of themselves and their behaviour.
Total embarrassment and a complete warning for the next councillor up for election.
Ms Cunningham thrashed them in a safe labour seat with 3 months of just being contactable and accountable.
Will be interesting to see the campaign spends compared to Middleton Park.
One of the hardest working councillors I e I’ve come across on the armley region! Lou has always been thereto support the community no matter what time of the day it is! Winning over 1700 and not winning the councillor job by 185 is an absolute achievement. Is there any wonder why over 1700 people of the community voted for Lou. You’ve got this for next time! Swaying 185 votes in your favour won’t need much effort. You will always be our councillor
Please ignore my evil twin.
