A Pudsey man has been jailed within days of assaulting a woman.
Jamie Freemantle, aged 40, of Acres Hall Crescent, Pudsey, was remanded in custody to appear at Leeds Magistrates Court last Thursday (11 December) where he pleaded guilty to one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment.
It follows an incident at Freemantle’s home address on 9 December. He subjected his victim to an unprovoked assault which left her with injuries including a broken nose.
Sergeant Chris Cahill, of Leeds Domestic Abuse Team, said: “This investigation began as an evidence-based prosecution because there was a reluctance to give statements to the police about Freemantle. I hope the victim and the wider community are reassured that he is now behind bars.
“Freemantle was arrested at the scene and then never left custody.
“Two days after the offence, he was charged and remanded to appear at court where he was immediately sentenced after entering a guilty plea. The victim now has space to decide how she wants to move forward, free of fear and violence.
“We are committed to tackling violence against women and girls and would urge anyone who has been the victim of violent or controlling behaviour or anyone with information about any potential offending to please report it. I hope this prosecution shows it is possible to secure swift justice against perpetrators of such abuse.”
Case officer PC Steff Hanlon said: “I would encourage anybody with concerns when forming a new relationship or changing behaviours of their partner to apply for a relationship ‘health check’ by contacting the police and asking for a Clare’s Law disclosure under the Right to Ask scheme.”
