Pudsey: Driveway plans refused

Plans in Pudsey to alter the access to Grade II Listed houses in Pudsey have been refused by council planners.

The joint application by three householders wanted to remove an existing shared access from Greenside and build three new driveways.

The work would mean the properties accessed from Greenside Grove and one from Greenside. This would include engineering works to drop kerbs as well as works to the boundary treatments.

The works would remove much of a grass verge boundary, with landscaping works including new areas of hard standing and boundary wall.

But a council report heard two of the properties are Grade II listed and that the proposals had attracted six objections from the public. The council’s highways department had concerns over road safety.

A planning officer’s report concluded: “The proposal is considered to have an unduly detrimental impact on the Grade II Listed building’s significance and setting as well as raising highway safety issues.”

The plans and council reports can be read in full here.

  1. The right decision, for once. The current arrangement sets off these lovely buildings nicely, and its not a good idea to have even more dropped kerbs and driveways so close to a junction.
