The details

The big switch-on event kicks off at 3pm with live performances on the main stage, a fun fair on Lowtown, and a Christmas market in Pudsey Market Place. There will be live performances throughout the Christmas light switch on by choirs from a number of local primary schools as well as Pudsey Ukes and Opportunity Theatre Arts.

Kids can enjoy craft activities in both Pudsey House and the library, and the library will also have Christmas stories being read. Choirs and a brass band will be performing in the Pudsey Park bandstand.

The main light switch-on is taking place at 6pm and will be led by Pudsey Olympian Nile Wilson. There will also be a fireworks display and a number of fairground rides. This will be happening on Manor House Street and Lowtown.

Before this there will be a Christmas market. At the market you will be able to buy a range of locally sourced Christmas foods, gifts and crafts. This will be held across Pudsey Market Place and Pudsey Leisure Centre.

The Christmas market will be preceded by the final Pudsey Produce and Craft Market of the year held between 9am and 1pm in the same location.

Pudsey Library is hosting an evening of Christmas crafts and storytelling for children which will run from 3pm to 7pm. There will also be the opportunity for the children to meet Santa Claus.

The Pudsey Christmas light switch on couldn’t happen without the tireless work of volunteers who put out over 300 Christmas trees and string up over 3 kilometres of lights.

Road closures

Several road closures are being put in place on 4 December between 11am and 9pm. Lowtown will be closed from its junction with Robin Lane to the junction with The Lanes. Manor House Street will be completely closed and Waver Green will be closed from its junction with Robin Lane to its junction with Church Lane.

There will be no parking or waiting along the eastern edge of Robin Lane from north of its junction with Clifton Road to its junction with Lowtown when coning is in place.

This year’s event is sponsored by Manning Stainton estate agents.

Other festive events

Santa and his reindeer will also be touring the streets of Pudsey, Swinnow and Tyersal between Thursday, 8 December and Monday, 12 December. More details regarding this event will be released in due course by the organisers.

On Saturday 3 December starting at 7.30pm, MyPudsey are also holding a Christmas quiz in aid of the Pudsey Wellbeing Centre and the Alzheimer’s Society at the ballroom at 147 sports bar. Tickets are £2.50 and can be purchased from the MyPudsey website.
