Bramley parkrunner Peter Covey has set several world records for his age group.
Peter is a veteran athlete from Pudsey, he recently celebrated his 85th birthday last November at Bramley parkrun, see photo above.
Peter is a former veteran world mountain running champion and turns his hand to indoor rowing when not running. This is done in a gym on a Concept 2 Rower and most gyms throughout the world have them.
This opens the sport up to nearly everyone.
He recently set five world records for his age group:
- The half marathon, 21,097 metres in 1 hour 40 minutes 42.8 seconds.
- The one-hour record is 12,715 metres.
- The 10,000 record is 46 minutes 18.3 seconds.
- The 30-minute record 6,615 metres.
- The 100-metre record is 18 seconds.
Peter trains at The Workhouse Gym in Farsley and Pudsey Leisure Centre.
He is quite small built for a rower being 5ft 7ins tall and weighs 10st 10lbs. He likes the competitive element and he hopes to keep running the Bramley parkrun as well as maintaining his rowing.
He recently completed his 155th parkrun event however his long term aim is to complete his 250th parkrun on his 90th birthday at Bramley.
