A public meeting will be held to discuss traffic management around the annual Orthodox Easter Service, which took place at Saint Makarios Orthodox Church in New Farnley earlier this month.
The popular annual service draws hundreds of churchgoers and runs from 6pm to 2.30am on May 4/5.
Councillor Mark Sewards (Lab, Farnley & Wortley) joined the event to help manage the traffic and parking situation, troubleshoot problems and to come up with improvements for the management of the event at the Romanian Orthodox Church in future years.
Posting on social media, he said: “Thank you to every resident who fed into the process, to the police for attending in large numbers and responding to my requests for support on the night, to the church volunteers for managing the event and to the ‘Think Traffic Management’ team for their work too.
“On the whole, it went better than in previous years but there are still improvements that I want to help make, including on Beechfield and Stephenson Drive.
“There will be a public meeting at the church on Wednesday, 15 May at 7pm where I’ll give a full report of my work and observations from the whole night, plus my suggestions to improve next year’s event.”

The Orthodox Church follows the Julian calendar (versus the Gregorian calendar), which often means a different date for Easter Sunday, though the calendars do sometimes coincide.
