Praise for Horsforth’s first Green Festival

By John Baron

Horsforth’s first Green Festival was a resounding success, town councillors have been told.

Members of the town council’s community and environment committee heard Penny Lewis, Chair of Horsforth Climate Action steering group, said September’s event in Horsforth Hall Park was well attended and received ‘excellent’ feedback.

The event included a produce show, apple pressing and a fruit and veg parade with children donning handmade masks and headpieces.

She told councillors that funding would be required for the festival to take place again, and that close collaboration with other organisations would be needed to help organise it.

Councillors made her aware of the Town Council’s grants and sponsorship opportunities.

Meeting chair, Councillor Simon Dowling, thanked the team for delivering a successful event and for all their hard work. Councillors also thanked her for involving the town council and for enabling the Mayor’s for Peace Champion to plant saplings on the day.

Town councillors also agreed a £300 grant for the 13th Horsforth St Margaret’s Guides towards the cost of volunteers for an upcoming event.

An initiative to pilot innovative and sustainable ways to improve floral displays on New Road Side next summer was also discussed.

And Cllr Cathy Gillinder reported that recent community litter picks had been well received by the public. She suggested holding litter picks more frequently, and it was agreed that this would be discussed further at the next meeting.
