Come and join Interplay Theatre in Armley for a special screening of ‘The Selfish Giant’.
Clio Barnard’s film is inspired by Oscar Wilde’s short story of the same name, and is a realist tale about friendship and community.
Set on the outskirts of Bradford, 13-year old Arbor (Conner Chapman) and his best mate Swifty (Shaun Thomas) start working for local dealer Kitten (Sean Gilder), collecting scrap metal.
Through his exploitative and duplicitous manner, he drives a wedge between the two teens. With Arbor feeling hurt and excluded, the story takes a tragic turn…
The film is screened at Interplay, on Armley Ridge Road, on 11 September from 7pm. Get real admission is £4 (concession £3).
The screening is part of Scalarama Leeds an annual DIY festival ‘by everyone, for everyone, everywhere’. As a co-operative organisation, they support people across Leeds to screen films that they love, in a celebration of community-led cinema, ad hoc screenings and pop-up film programmes.
