A senior police officer will explain a ‘worrying’ increase in the number of burglaries in the Calverley & Farsley ward to local councillors.
Members of the Outer West Community Committee will meet at Farnley Hall next Monday amid concerns about a 73% increase in burglaries compared to last year.
Figures first debated by councillors in September said there had been 50 more burglaries between January and August this year in the ward – a total of 111 compared to 61 for the same period last year.
Police have been asked to explain the figures and detail what action is being taken to tackle the apparent surge.
the head of Safer Stronger Leeds will also update the meeting over a brief overview of the Leeds Watch CCTV service and information regarding the 11 cameras situated throughout the three Outer West Leeds wards – Calverley & Farsley, Farnley & Wortley and Pudsey.
The full agenda and documents for next Monday’s meeting can be read in full here.
It will be interesting to hear this “explanation” from the Police. Domestic burglaries are a major concern for the average man in the street, maybe more than any other crime, but it would seem from what we hear and read that the Police and the Criminal justice system do not share this view of the importance of this offence. How often do suspects even get identified, and if they do, what action is taken against them? A 73% increase isn’t a small one.
