The sun shone and there was a strong turn out of spectators and canine competitors, as the Friends of Armley and Gotts Park group celebrated their fifth annual dog show, on Sunday, April 27.

There were categories for Loveliest Lady, Most Handsome Hound, Perfect Puppy, Serious Senior, Waggiest Tail, Best Rescue, Best Dressed Dog, and Best in Show.

The entrants were judged by Reverend Phil Arnold of Christ Church, Armley, and David Skelton of Skelton’s Butchers, Armley.

The event was compered by Councillor Lou Cunningham (Green, Armley), assisted by a bunch of friendly volunteers who all helped to make the event a great success. The crowd queued up for the hotdog and ice cream stands, and the judges in the ring made the tough decision on who really had the waggiest tail – it was Orca!

Pepper, won the loveliest lady competition, and handsome Husky, Koda, won the Serious Senior prize. While Jesse (age seven) won the puppy prize with her Shih Tzu, Kali. All the entrants were good boys and girls and the belly rubs and treats weren’t just reserved for the winners.

Volunteer Jenny Meehan said, “It’s great to see the community support these events and it’s fun, even for people without dogs.”
