Petition opposes Farsley pub’s extended opening hours – police withdraw concerns

By John Baron

An application to extend the hours a Farsley bar can serve alcohol will be decided by city councillors later this month.

Owners of Number Thirty Three in Farsley Town Street have applied to serve alcohol on Fridays and Saturdays up to 1.30am with opening hours until 2am. It currently sells alcohol until midnight and is open until 12.30am on those days.

The pub would also close at 11.30pm on a Sunday.

Councillors on Leeds City Council’s licensing sub committee will decide the application to extend the pub’s hours on Tuesday, January 14 when they meet at Leeds Civic Hall.

A petition signed by 44 residents of Marsden Court Sheltered Housing includes concerns over crime and disorder, public safety, public nuisance and the protection of children from harm.

A qualified objection by West Yorkshire Police offered a number of suggested measures to tackle crime prevention, which the applicant has agreed to incorporate into their operating schedule. The police representation has since been withdrawn.

A raft of suggested conditions includes adopting a check 21 proof of age scheme, staff training on the correct procedures for age verification, running a suitable CCTV system and music being inaudible to nearest properties after 11pm.

The meeting on Tuesday, January 14, starts at 10am.

The full documents and reports attached to the application and agenda of the licensing committee can be found here.

  1. Of course the company will agree to the limitations, but they will not follow them, and the Council does not have the money to enforce them.
