Rodley Cricket Club hosted the return of Scruffs; the annual dog show and family fun day.
The competition took place on Sunday, 24 August, and opened up to many breeds and handlers of all ages. Categories included; Best Puppy (up to one year), Best Golden Oldie (9+), Best Sausage Catcher, Waggiest Tail, Best Young Handler (u13s), Best Rescue, Most Handsome Dog and Prettiest Bitch.

Events kicked off with Best Puppy, and Shadow and owner Robert were the first winners of the day. Shadow received a huge round of a-paws after hearing that they underwent surgery last year and were lucky to be here.

Betty and Bear made fur-ends whilst in the ring for Best Sausage Catcher. Bear took home 4th place but the winner was no other than Freddie the sausage dog.

With the sun coming out, the competition soon heated up and Phyllis impressed the judges for two rosettes, 4th place for Waggiest Tail and owner Robert took home Best Young Handler.
Winners were selected from each category and then competed further for the Best in Show title. The Champion of Champions Trophy was awarded with a huge round of a- Paws to Bruno (and Claire) who also won the most handsome dog prize.

Other events included a BBQ, bouncy castle and lots of stalls. The raffle had some top prizes, including; Rudding Park Vouchers, tickets for England vs South Africa at Headingley and even two flights provided by Jet2.

Later on, tails wagged and humans danced with live music performed by Jessica Frost on the club’s balcony.

Community spirit was high and helped with the success of the event with over 100 dogs entered in this years show. All money raised goes to the cricket club. You can find out about other events at the club by following their Facebook page.
Fun Fact: The real Crufts Dog Show began in 1891 as a marketing tool for a dog biscuit company, organised by its employee Charles Cruft! It is now one of the world’s most prestigious dogs shows and open to all breeds.
