Rodley Cricket Club’s commercial licence includes entitlement to hold up to four car boot sales a year. Sunday’s was their first, with the intention of quarterly events to follow.
Rodley CC achieved their initial target of 20 pitches which is encouraging, and indicates a potential to become regular social, commercial and community events similar to those held by cricket clubs such as Burley in Wharfedale and Ilkley.
The goods on offer were predominantly, though not exclusively, children’s books, toys and clothing. All clean, well presented and many offered for pennies from the sellers’ own homes rather than bought to sell on.
In that respect the event bore more resemblance to a French village vide grenier (attic clearance) than a typical English semi-commercial car boot. No traders trying to get inside the car boots before the goods come out.
A high proportion of items on offer were well cared for children’s clothes, books and toys. Many at bargain prices – most of the toys in the pink box were priced at 10p.
Rodley CC’s next car boot is provisionally scheduled for October. All enquiries to Bex on 07729 540130. Announcements will be made on the club’s Facebook page and here in WLD.
Visitors to Rodley CC on Sunday 4 August can take advantage of club facilities when they are holding their annual dog show and Family Fun Day. The show starts at 12pm (registration from 11am). Following the dog show there is live music from Lynsey Cawthra, Jessica Frost and The Labrats. Plus stalls selling varied items and tombola, hook a duck, coconut shy, bouncy castle and inflatable slide.
