Ossett late show breaks Farsley Celtic hearts

In a seesaw match at Ingfield in which both sides dominated play for long periods, Ossett Town struck two late goals to break Farsley Celtic hearts and move top of the league, writes Thomas Ritchie.

Ossett almost took the lead after 15 seconds after Farsley defender Aaron Hardy gifted the ball to Nathan Curtis. He played in Alex Peterson, whose effort hit the upright and Jason Yates blasted the rebound over from close range.

Farsley started to grow into the game and James Walshaw had their best chance in the opening 30 minutes, being played in by Hardy before turning and lashing his shot just over.

Ossett then took the lead with a scrappy goal as a Danny Frost header thumped against the bar, and then fell to Alex Peterson who bundled it home.

Paul Walker then produced the goal of the game to haul Farsley level, the ball dropping to him on the edge of the box from a Jordan Deacey corner, smashing a terrific shot into the top corner past the outstretched hand of Leigh Overton.

Within minutes Farsley edged in front as a lovely flick on by Walshaw played in Jordan Deacey, who poked the ball home past Overton.

Farsley dominated the proceedings for much of the second half and really should have extended their lead.

First, an inch-perfect long ball from Paddy Miller picked out Richard Marshall on the right, before his superb cross was headed goalwards by Walshaw. But Leigh Overton produced a stunning save to deny the Celtic frontman.

Walshaw then had another chance as he intercepted a poor Tyrone Gay backpass, but with Overton trying to narrow the angle he fired just over.

With ten minutes remaining Ossett almost pulled level as Danny Frost broke through the defence only to be denied by McKibbin, however he gathered the ball once more and rounded the ‘keeper, his effort being terrifically blocked on the line by Farsley skipper Miller.

However from the resulting corner Town did pull level, the ball falling to Ashley Jackson in the box who fired home.

In the fourth minute of added time Steven Ridley’s free-kick fell to Alex Peterson at the back post who guided his free header past a frozen McKibbin which sparked jubilant celebrations among the home faithful.
