Words: John Baron
An online community ‘pub night’ with a difference is encouraging Bramley residents interested in their community to join in its latest meeting.
The Local is a monthly online event run by the Barley Community Society, which is the community group which unsuccessfully tried to take over the running of the Barley Mow pub a couple of years’ ago.
The Local is on Monday 18t October 7.30-8.30pm on zoom, worthy organisers promising ‘it’s fun, it’s friendly, it’s community!.
All are welcome for a Bramley pub quiz and chat with Zoe Parker and Lucy Meredith about ‘We Are Bramley – Acts Of Defiance’, which is a Leeds 2023 project to find out what you’d like creativity and culture to be in Bramley.
WLD editor John Baron will talk about the top local issues and news this month and there will be a chat with Helen Garrand about making Bramley festive this Christmas. Roland Cross will provide an update about Newlay and Whitecote Residents’ Association and the chance to promote a community activity or ask for help with it.

With regard to Christmas at Bramley Centre, I understand that as far as the landlords, LCP, are concerned, it is cancelled and they will not be contributing to any celebrations as their predecessors did on a regular basis.
