Why this abandoned Stanningley pub faces demolition …

A former public house in Stanningley which has been abandoned for a number of years faces demolition later this month.

The Old Roundabout Pub is in a state of disrepair and could be demolished alongside a warehouse building and redundant sheds at the Vickersdale works site, off Town Street.

Applicant Anthony Brewster of Infinity Metals Ltd wants to carry out the demolition on 27 November 2017.

In demolition papers submitted to Leeds City Council for consideration, Mr Brewster says:

“Identified buildings are redundant and surplus to requirements. Demolition of these buildings will permit a reorganisation and streamlining of the existing site operations, minimising vehicle movements on site and allowing noisy operations to be kept away from adjacent housing and school premises.”

The planning application, which can be read in full here, says the site will be levelled and used as a hard standing area alongside existing metal salvage yard activities.
