Farnley & Wortley Green Party‘s New Year’s free minibus service was again a success with 218 passengers benefiting from the service.
The service, which covered part of the number 42 and number 5 bus routes, ran hourly between Armley, Farnley, Wortley and City Square between 8.30am and 5.55pm.
The mini-bus was sponsored by local businesses and was driven by Green Party supporters. Councillors David and Ann Blackburn (Green, Farnley & Wortley) were also at hand to help passengers on and off the bus and to ensure that the service run to time.
Cllr David Blackburn said:
“We have gave gained a good reputation locally over the 19 years we have been running this service. It has to be remembered that not everyone has transport of their own, yet some people still need transport to work, hospital visiting etc.
“The bus companies won’t run services on New Year’s Day because it is not profitable. Surely, though they should make an effort and provide a minimum service and show some good will to their passengers who support them throughout the year.”
