A new women’s group has launched in Bramley this spring, creating a welcoming space for women to connect, talk and support one another.
The group is a collaboration between Full Circle Funerals, Bramley Care Bears and Places
for People, and will take place at the Bramley branch of Full Circle Funerals.
Organisers say the initiative aims to provide a relaxed and friendly environment where
women from the local community can meet over a cup of tea, make new connections and
build supportive relationships.
The idea for the group came from conversations about the lack of informal spaces where
women can simply spend time together and talk.
Angela McConnell, from Bramley Care Bears, said: “I was travelling on buses a couple
of weeks ago and heard a couple of ladies talking about how there aren’t many groups for
women to just talk about their problems with other women who may have gone through the same things.
“That got me thinking. So, I suggested the idea at one of our Bramley Care Bears meetings and it grew from there.”
Isla Patterson, from Places for People, who attended the first session last week, added: “It was a lovely afternoon seeing the brilliant work Bramley Care Bears are doing in the local community and getting to know locals over bacon butties, tea and cakes!
“It’s fantastic to see how creating spaces like the Women’s Group can help people connect
and get involved with their community.”
Jodie Berrell, Lead Funeral Director at Full Circle Funerals in Bramley, said the organisation was pleased to support the initiative.
“As a female-led organisation it’s really important to us that we support opportunities for
women in our local communities to come together,” she said.
“We know how valuable it can be simply to have a welcoming space where people can connect and feel part of something.
“We’re proud to be working alongside Bramley Care Bears and Places for People on this initiative, and we’ve offered our Bramley space free of charge, so the group has somewhere safe, warm and welcoming to meet. Our spaces are here for the community, not just at difficult times but also for moments that bring people together.”
The group will run free of charge on the first Wednesday of every month between 11am and 2pm, offering a relaxed drop-in space where women can stay for as long or as little time as they like.
The sessions are open to all women in the Bramley area, with no expectations or
commitments.
