New signs plans at Farsley restaurant as owners prepare to sell

A popular Farsley restaurant is still open to the public – but its owners have confirmed plans to sell it.

A planning application has been submitted to Leeds City Council for new signs at Mexican restaurant Sabrosa Street, on Farsley Town Street.

Applicant Kubra Gulen is looking to buy the restaurant and rename it Fifty-Eight Giardino, promising brunch, dinner and cocktails.

Following speculation on social media, Sabrosa Street‘s owners clarified their position over the weekend – and stressed they were still operating as normal.

They said: “Hi everyone, obviously it has come to our attention today that planning permission has been put in for new signage at our restaurant so I just wanted to clear it up a little and let you know we are still open and operating as usual.

“Yes we have sold, but as yet, nothing is signed with solicitors so we continue to be open. It would have been nice for us to get the opportunity to announce it but that’s been done for us I guess.

“Once things have been confirmed, we will of course announce a closing date and have a little leaving party but in the meantime it’s business as usual, so come down and get your Mexican fix.”

Sabrosa’s potential departure sparked sadness among commenters on Facebook.

One said: “Gutted you are leaving. Absolutely love your food and visiting your restaurant. Hope whatever you do next is awesome. Thank you for looking after me so well during lockdown.”

The planning application – which includes an illuminated individual lettering sign on the front facade ands one illuminated projecting sign – can be viewed here.
