When young pupils returned to Pudsey Lowtown Primary School in September they were over the moon to discover an exciting new addition to their playground.
Over the summer holidays, the weather-worn wooden pirate ship has been replaced with a brand-new climbing frame, complete with a slide, sliding pole, rope bridge, and a covered area to play in.
The new equipment was part-funded by the school’s Parent, Teacher and Friends Association (Wise Owls PTFA), which had been working hard to raise money through lots of well-supported events: such as the Christmas Fair, Easter Raffle, Halloween Disco, and more.
Celebrations for the grand opening included a performance from the school choir, sports day activities for the children, and an incredible inflatable obstacle course, which even the smallest of children were brave enough to tackle!
Headteacher Claire Armitage said: “The new equipment is fantastic, and the children have been very excited to use it. At Pudsey Lowtown we want all our pupils to develop a lifelong love of being active and keeping healthy and having things like this fantastic climbing frame and slide is a great way to support that through playtimes.”
The PTFA is now raising funds for vital IT equipment that is going to give more pupils access to skills that will help develop their computing skills.
“Tinkering with software and programs forms a part of our ethos around computing,” Mrs Armitage added. “We want to develop pupils’ confidence when encountering new technology, which is a vital skill in the ever evolving and changing landscape of our digital society.”
