After campaigning for many years for a play park on Jailey Field, residents attending New Wortley Community Centre were delighted to see so many people attending the opening event!
Over 200 local residents turned up to enjoy a Halloween treasure hunt, wicked prizes for the spookiest outfits, steaming hot chocolate, hotdogs and goody bags galore.
New Wortley Community Centre’s CEO, Andrea Edwards, officially cut through the ribbon with fellow fundraisers Chair of New Wortley Residents’ Association Kimberly Frangos, Armley councillor Andy Parnham, Executive Member for Climate, Energy, Environment and Green Spaces Cllr Mohammed Rafique, and Benjamin from New Wortley’s Youth Board.
Mum Monika Dhingra said: “It’s nice now it’s not just an empty field, the children can run around and use their imaginations, we will visit now, there’s even benches to sit on, have a snack and watch the kids play.”
After the celebrations at the park a bunch of little ghouls and goblins zoomed back for a Hallowe’en bash at New Wortley Community Centre’s youth club.
A whopping 28 children bustled in, dancing like nobody was watching, getting their faces painted into masterpieces and gobbling up tons of tasty treats.
