New Armley Park playground is officially opened

By John Baron

The spring sun shone brightly and children packed onto new play equipment as The Friends of Armley Park officially opened the new playground.

Today’s special opening event marked eight years of campaigning to improve the facilities – and saw volunteers dressed as pirates and youngsters treated to free ice creams.

The new park area includes swings and a zip wire amongst a raft of new equipment. And the Friends aren’t resting on their laurels. There are plans for a second and third phase of the playground, as well as a raft of community events throughout the year.

The event was funded by Armley’s councillors.

Our comment: Armley Park playground campaign shows people power at its finest.
