Morris dancers treat Rodley pub-goers

By Dianne Craven

Under a clear blue May evening sky Rodley pub goers got a real treat as The Wharfedale Wayzgoose Border Morris played music, danced and made a lot of noise.

Formed in 1994, Wharfedale Wayzgoose dance Border Morris, which is all rags, sticks and noise. Border Morris originates from the Welsh/English border towns, hence the name.

Although the dancers are based in Otley this was the third year that the group has held the event at the Owl Inn and Rodley Barge, Rodley.

‘Honk” (AKA Lucy) said that they were not raising funds for charity. Morris dancers just love to play music, dance and have fun. Honk said she danced for beer money!

Eleanor King and her friend (both from County Durham) did not know the event was on.  They had only come gone to the Owl Inn for something to eat.

Eleanor said: “It is a really nice surprise. We don’t have anything like this in County Durham.”

For bookings, or to give Morris a try, the group can be found on most of the social media. Find them on Facebook or their website.
