Horsforth St Margaret’s thrashed Bardsey 7-2 with an entertaining goal fest of a match.
On their home ground at St George’s playing field, they lined up to play a West Yorkshire Division 1 encounter.
Having dominated possession throughout the 90 minutes they took the much-deserved three points to add to their league campaign’s tally.
Six different names were on the scorer’s list for the home team.
Horsforth went 1-0 up after 20 minutes. Bardsey failed to get the ball away and Eyob Casa tidied up when he found himself with a chance within the six-yard box.
Four minutes later a long ball from deep in Horsforth’s half was played up to Jake Kilbride, sprinting ahead of the defenders he had only the keeper to beat and neatly knocked the ball into the bottom right corner of the net to make the score 2-0.
Against the run of play Bardsey got goals of their own. When the Horsforth goalkeeper was put under pressure he couldn’t prevent Bardsey from making the score 2-1. And they got their second before half time, Horsforth left too much space in their area and the game was level.

At half-time the score stood at 2-2. The message to the Horsforth players must have been that they are the better team and to keep probing and the goals will come.
Almost immediately after the start of the second half Casa found himself through, only a foul denied him another goal. From the resulting free kick Declan Ros curled the ball from 25 yards into the top left hand corner of the goal to make it 3-2.
Kenan Can then got two goals in quick succession for the home team. Defensive mistakes enabled him to find the net, putting the ball through the goalkeeper’s legs. Then, after a move down the left, Can scored his second with a touch in the penalty area.
Alessio Demurtas then found acres of space to add another goal.

Horsforth, who were then running away with the game, added one more goal before full time.
After some intricate passes through the midfield, man of the match Joe Fitzpatrick found space between the defenders and made the score 7-2. An emphatic win.
Goal scoring is no problem for Horsforth. In their league alone they have scored 36 goals in nine games. Only Harlow Hill, who are currently leading the division, have scored more with 37 from 12 games.
This result leaves Horsforth St Margaret’s sixth in Division 1 which is the second tier of the West Yorkshire Association Football League. They have games in hand over teams above them. They are also yet to be knocked out of other cup competitions.
