Brighouse Town secured their second win in a row as they defeated a lacklustre Farsley Celtic 1-0 at Throstle Nest, writes Thomas Ritchie.
The first chance of the game fell to Farsley when Aiden Savory couldn’t beat the on rushing ‘keeper Paul Hargreen. The ball then fell to Lewis Nightingale, who saw his effort well saved.
A moment of controversy then occurred as a Ryan Hall effort bounced down off the Farsley crossbar and seemed to have crossed the line, but referee Ken Haycock decided otherwise, much to Town’s frustration.
James Pollard then received the ball on the edge of the box and let fly, only for Farsley’s Tom Taylor to brilliantly tip the ball over the bar.
Farsley then started to come back into the match as Neil Stevens played through the captain Robbie O’Brien, who poked the ball wide of the upright.
Ryan Hall then had another chance for Brighouse and saw his effort well saved by Taylor, however Farsley were then dealt a big blow when Ryan Serrant was forced off through injury.
The visitors’ Ernest Boafo had a glorious chance to make the breakthrough, however he could only fire wide when through on goal.
Just after the hour mark O’Brien crossed for Nightingale who made a great effort to get to the ball, but he could only shoot straight at Hargreen. James Pollard was then causing more problems for Farsley as he saw his powerful free-kick receive a slight deflection off the wall, only for Taylor to leap across and make the save.
Brighouse captain Leon Henry then scored what turned out to be the winner as a loose ball from a corner fell to his feet, and he managed to bundle the ball home to silence the Farsley faithful. Ryan Hall then had the chance to clinch the match straight from the restart, however when one on one with Taylor he only managed to slip the ball the wrong side of the upright.
Farsley failed to create any chances late in the game, and Brighouse held on for a valuable victory.
