The new Lidl supermarket at the Belgrave Retail Park in Stanningley will officially open next week.
The store will open on Thursday, 22 February at 8am and will coincide with the official unveiling of community artwork facilitated by artist Pippa Hale.
The 2.6-metre artwork, called Bridge, will celebrate Stanningley’s industrial past. It is cast from iron and follows the arc of a bridge reaching out from the retail park towards Stanningley Town Street.
Ms Hale said:
“The work is a bridge between the past and present, a reminder of Stanningley’s glorious industrial past and a link to its new servicing future.”
The retail park will be anchored by the 28,000 sq ft new concept Lidl food store. Home Bargains will also take 15,000 sq ft of space and Heron Frozen Foods has signed on for 4,000 sq ft, along with smaller units for Mencap, Card Factory, Greggs and Betfred.
The scheme is located on a brownfield site which was previously occupied by former Leeds United sponsor R F Winder a decade ago.
