Leeds Wool Festival 2017 returns to Armley

Visitors to this year’s Leeds Wool Festival 2017 at Leeds Industrial Museum in Armley will be treated to a huge mix of stalls, workshops and activities.

The event, now in its fourth year, is one of the attraction’s most popular annual showpieces.

Taking place on June 3 from 10am until 5pm, the festival will include stalls from local specialist retailers like The Knitting Goddess, Sonic Knitting, The Border Tart, Dye Ninja and Baa Ram Ewe.

The museum will also be hosting a demonstration area, where visitors can learn about spinning, felting and other techniques by watching experts in action.

Yarn the Movie, which features wool graffiti artists and circus performers, will be showing in the museum’s 1930s cinema and the WI pop up café will be serving cake and afternoon teas.

Workshops on the day will include Colourwork Winged from the Top Down and Introduction to Marlisle, both with specialist knitter Anna Maltz.

Councillor Brian Selby, Leeds City Council’s lead member for museums and galleries, said:

“The Leeds Wool Festival is a fantastic and imaginative occasion which continues to grow in popularity each and every year.

“It’s also a fitting tribute to Leeds’s rich history as a cornerstone of the country’s textile industry and there could not be a more apt location to celebrate that than Leeds Industrial Museum.”

Entry to Leeds Wool festival costs £3.80 for adults or £3 concessions. Workshops are priced at £25 per person, which includes museum admission.

The museum itself, parts of which date from the 1700s, was once the world’s largest woollen mill.
