Leeds Rhinos on the ball with new training facilities in Kirkstall

Plans for a new two-storey changing facility and training/meeting room for Leeds Rhinos Training Academy in Kirkstall have been approved by Leeds City Council.

The facility would provide new changing rooms at ground floor level and additional meeting and training space at first floor. A lift, storage and office room, balcony and plant room are also planned.

The proposals were first submitted three years ago. The building will be an extension to an existing training centre, which is used daily by professional athletes from the Leeds Rhinos Rugby League and Yorkshire Carnegie Rugby Union teams.

A council planning officer’s report approving the plans, subject to conditions, concluded: “In summary it is considered that the development complies with the aims and intentions of all relevant policies and will not cause significant harm to visual or residential amenity and will not increase the risk of flooding.”

The training ground has been restructured since the Boxing Day 2015 floods submerged parts of the facility nine years ago.

Leeds Rhinos and then Leeds Tykes moved into Kirkstall as their training ground in 2000 and more recently it became the home of the Leeds Rhinos Foundation.

The plans can be viewed in full here.
