A draft Kirkstall Neighbourhood Plan, which will give residents better control over new development and greater influence over the spending of local funds, could move a step closer to reality this week.
After nine years’ work and a community consultation, the Kirkstall Neighbourhood Forum steering group say they have a ‘pretty clear’ idea of what they think the community would like the Kirkstall Neighbourhood Plan to say.
The plan will help consider ways on how to tackle some of the major issues affecting Kirkstall ward and envisage how residents would like life in Kirkstall and Burley to be in 2040.
Issues include improving transport infrastructure and services, alleviating congestion and developing better routes and facilities for cyclists and public rights of way users and improving and enhancing green space. The document also looks at housing and the conservation of Kirkstall’s non-designated heritage assets.
Forum members will this week attend a meeting at the New Burley Club to agree an initial ‘Policy Intentions Document’, which sets out suggested policy and land use intentions to include in a final draft plan.
It’s hoped the final draft plan will be published for formal public consultation in early 2025 and that final plans will come into force in 2026.
