Kirkstall Festival stalwart receives MP’s community hero award

This week’s Leeds West local hero award has gone to John Liversedge for the work that he put in to ensure that Kirkstall Festival was able to go ahead this year.

The festival returned with a scaled-back ticketed event after being postponed last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Mr Liversedge was nominated by Richard Honey, who said:

“Despite the really challenging logistics of lockdown, John and the team were able to produce a successful and safe event. His almost lifelong dedication to the community in Kirkstall is legendary. Not sure if he’s been nominated before but I certainly think he should be!”

Rachel Reeves MP, who is running the awards, said:

“I am pleased to award this week’s local hero to John. John is a real community asset who works hard for Kirkstall, and he thoroughly deserves this award.”

The Leeds West Local Heroes are an annual awards scheme run by Rachel Reeves over the summer. The final one for 2021 will be awarded next week.
