Kirkstall Abbey offering two added attractions in May

By Ivor Hughes

From 25 May to 2 June, coinciding with May half term, Kirkstall Abbey has a scarecrow festival showing examples of the Abbey staff’s creative skills.

There is a checklist of them behind the cafe, encouraging visitors to find them all. They are dotted round the Abbey buildings. Here are the ones found by Ivor Hughes.

Across the road, Abbey House is hosting a craft fair with around 20 exhibitors showing locally made and crafted goods from 25 to Monday 27 May and from 11am to 3pm.

On 29 and 30 June it returns in its much larger guise as a market, including local produce, in the Abbey Grounds. Enquiries about stalls to LCC’s Abbey Commercial Bookings Officer Mark Kilvington on 0113 3784079.

Tanya of The Woolly Goldfish offers handmade accessories such as these earrings. She also has a presence on Etsy.
Laurie Briggs from Shuttles & Bobbins of Tong Village offers a wide selection of locally woven goods.
