Volunteers maintaining the banks of the River Aire since the Boxing Day floods of 2015 will host their first clean-up event of 2019 tomorrow (Friday, February 8).
The special River Stewardship volunteer day – which is part of the Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme – will start at 10am and will clear pathways and pick litter at Burley Mills Weir.
The event is facilitated by Kirkstall Road-based Open Source Arts, which was flooded back in 2015. It’s one of two strands of riverbank clean-ups run by Open Source Arts this year.
The regular fortnightly riverbanks clean-ups run under the ‘Team Kirkstall’ banner will also resume on Saturday 16 Feb 2019.
Other dates include:
- 2 March 2019
- 16 March 2019
- 30 March 2019
The location of the clean-ups will be advertised on the Team Kirkstall Facebook page.
