Jingle bells, litter smells! – Dixons Unity community hosts litter pick

By Joanne Gittins

On a festive Friday morning, the Dixons ‘Unity community’ gathered for a Christmas-themed litter picking event around Whingate Road.

As an official Community Cleanup Hub with national charity CleanupUK, the hub provides litter picking equipment for individuals and groups to borrow, encouraging community pride and participation.

The event was organised by Angi Germain from Dixons Unity Academy, which welcomes visitors to the Unity Community hub each week, and Jo Gittins, Chair of the Local Academy Board of Leeds Ambassadors at Dixons Academies Trust.

They were joined by several parent and community volunteers, Lewis and Harry from Roadblock CIC, and even Santa made a special appearance!

Despite the cold, volunteers worked diligently, engaging in friendly conversations with passersby. By the end of the hour, the team had collected eight bags of litter.

A big thank you to all the volunteers who participated. If you or your group would like to borrow litter picking equipment, you’ll find the details here.

Together, we can make a difference in our community!
