Horsforth’s Walk of Art marks decade of creativity and community

By community reporter

West Leeds residents are being invited to celebrate the 10th year of the Horsforth Walk of Art – with many hands on experiences, workshops, show and tells and performances.

Horsforth Walk of Art, an annual celebration of creativity and community, proudly celebrates its 10th year in 2024 from the 6 to 7 July, 11am to 4pm each day.

Over the past decade, for one weekend a year, the residents, businesses and community groups of Horsforth have opened their doors to play host to an array of colourful, musical and inspirational local talent in its charming town.

This milestone promises to be an unforgettable experience, bringing the festival right back to its roots, featuring workshops, installations, sculptures, paintings and performances that reflect the spirit of Horsforth and in many cases, nods to this year’s theme of ‘Things that go’.

Highlights of the festival include:

  • Community Collaborations – Witness the power of what art can do to bring people together through collaborative projects involving schools, community groups, local artists and local businesses. From electrical boxes to knitted art installations to the award nominated High street galleries project showcasing the talents of the local school children working with artists from the area.
  • Workshops, activities and demonstrations – Learn new skills and techniques from art in all its forms. Want to join an Abba singing workshop? Want to work with Burley Banksy? Want to learn knitting or watercolour? Want to draw manga or have a go at 3d printing? Want to just ask an artist a question? There will be a little something for everybody.
  • Showcasing artists – Visit artists across Horsforth to simply admire their work, ask questions or buy a piece or two.
  • Music and film – Be inspired by music from choirs on the Green, flutes in a church, bands in the park, rock in a pub or local music videos in a brewery.

Lead organiser Kezia Roberts said: “We are thrilled to be celebrating our 10th year. We are rightly proud of the talent in our area and cannot wait to share and inspire others.

“In a city where more and more arts centres are being shut or not supported, it is even more important to give artists and creatives a platform or space to create and be seen, and in many cases, to build on their talents, confidence and profession.

“This is a festival created and run by the community of Horsforth. Every year is very different as more people come forward to share ideas and just make those ideas come to life. We are really looking forward to welcoming you to our event.”
