Horsforth Town Council has urged people to avoid a scam promoting stalls and tickets at the annual Christmas lights switch on.
The town council says scammers on WhatsApp scam and Facebook are pretending to represent Horsforth Town Team by promoting stalls at the Christmas lights switch-on and festive market.
A spokesperson said the event is ticketless and free to attend to the public.
They added: “If you see any posts on here or on WhatsApp offering ticket sales or offering a market stall please, do not respond and report to stephwhite@horsforthtowncouncil.gov.uk and to Facebook/WhatsApp if possible too.
“The only legitimate posts will be from Horsforth Town Council.
“If you are interested in having a stall, please e-mail Horsforth Town Team (Hello Horsforth) at hola@hooleos.com.
“They are looking after the market side of the event. Thank you, and apologies for any confusion this has caused.”
The annual Christmas lights and market will be held ion Saturday, 6 December on Town Street.
Festivities include live music, a festive market, Santa’s grotto and special guests before counting down to the Christmas lights switch-on from 5pm on the main stage. The town council will also be announcing the winners of its local Heart of Horsforth Awards on the evening.
