The amount people in Horsforth pay towards their Town Council is set to rise in the 2026-27 financial year.
Town councillors have unanimously agreed to increase the annual precept to £215,000. The cost per household for a Band D property will be £28.38 for the financial year 2026/27. This equates to an increase of £8.18 per household per year on a Band D property – about 68p per month.
In a statement, Horsforth Town Council said it was a ‘difficult decision’ to increase the precept and added: “We realise that this will impact everyone in the community, including councillors.”
The statement said: “The money raised by the precept will be used by the Town Council to continue to provide events such as the hugely successful Christmas Lights Switch On and Market, the Remembrance Day Services and annual events such as those previously held for the Coronation, D Day and VE Day anniversaries.
“These events are enjoyed by so many in our Horsforth community and beyond.
“The precept also enables the Town Council to continue to provide grants and sponsorships to a range of voluntary groups that enrich our community and its environment.”
The statement said the Horsforth precept was ‘significantly’ smaller than precepts in towns such as Otley (£101.06 per year for Band D property).
