Horsforth Golf Club banners refused permission

Retrospective plans for two freestanding banner signs at Horsforth Golf Club would be an ‘alien addition’ to the area, council planners have said.

Horsforth Golf Club submitted the application for its land off Bayton Lane, near Leeds Bradford Airport.

But a council planning officer’s report refused the application.

It stated: “The vinyl banners, albeit within a frame within open grounds, appear out of character when read against the context, along a busy road with no clear purpose and direction of the signage.

“The advertisement would read as discordant and incongruous and whilst regard is had to the commercial reasons, these do not outweigh the harm to the visual amenity of the locality and the streetscene.

“Furthermore, the freestanding banner signs are considered of poor quality and design in this open landscape and constitute an incongruous addition in this regard.

“On balance, it is considered the signs results in unnecessary structure in the street, is of poor quality and design and has introduced an incongruous and alien addition to Bayton Lane.”

The plans can be viewed in full here.
