A popular Horsforth cafe is inviting local parents to join them for their new community initiative Parental Leave Coffee Mornings, with the first one starting this Friday (24 January 2025).
Lucy and Karl Todd from Truly Scrummy on Town Street are inviting parents to join them on Friday mornings at the cafe as they launch the new event, the latest in their efforts to use their event space to tackle isolation.
Parents are invited to “bring your bumps and babies” every Friday morning between 11am and 1pm, either with a friend or on their own, to meet new friends and enjoy a hot drink and cake.
From next month there will be guest speakers and special activities on the last Friday of every month. In February this will be a talk from the pelvic health clinic and in March there will be baby and toddler yoga with Diddly Oms.
In future months there will be visits from My Bump and Me, a local organisation who provide ante and post natal preparation courses, and Bump and Beyond, who provide fitness advice and programs for mums during pregnancy and after the birth.

Lucy who, with husband Karl, took over Truly Scrummy in 2019, said: “It has always been my dream to use the event space as a bit of a community space so we’ve opened it up for things like lone working.
“We wanted to call this parental leave rather than a maternity group because we wanted it to be open to either mums or dads. We don’t want to exclude anyone really. We’ve set up some play mats and toys and we do a slight discount on a coffee and a cake so that they can come and meet other mums and dads and just have a bit of a breather.”

The couple are combining the skills they learned in their previous careers, Lucy in mental health and Karl in hospitality.
“I really wanted to run a space that was for the community where people could use it and just look after their mental health. A holistic approach so it’s not just about the food it’s about the socialising.”
