Plans to increase capacity at Hawksworth Wood Primary School look set to be approved by senior councillors next week.
Members of the council’s decision-making executive board will gear that proposals to increase the school from a capacity of 210 pupils to 420 pupils has been brought forward to next year.
The extra numbers will be achieved by increasing the admission number from 30 to 60 in a bid to meet the increased demand for primary school places across the Kirkstall, Burley and Hawksworth Wood estate.
Other schools earmarked for expansion include Shakespeare Primary and Hunslet Moor.
A report considered by councillors at the Civic Hall next Wednesday concludes:
“The proposals to expand these schools are strong. They would provide additional school places for local children in the areas they are located.
“No comments were made during the statutory notice period and the concerns raised at the consultation stage were addressed in the reports which previously went to Executive Board.”
