Armley Action Team is inviting 11-17 year olds from LS12 area, and any adults who wish to help, to come and paint a mural with local artists this weekend in Armley.
The mural has been inspired by local young people, who have been working with mural and graffiti artists this summer to imagine the Armley they’d like to live in.
Artists from We Belong Here are sketching out the mural and inviting the public to help colour it in using recycled paint from Seagulls Reuse in Kirkstall Road.
Artist Nat Joseph said: “It’s been really interesting and eye-opening hearing from young people in this area about how they want to live their lives, and what’s important to them. They told us they want to feel safe, and to have more colour and creativity in the area, more kindness, more sense of community, and that they want real equality.”
A spokesperson for Armley Action Team said: “We can’t wait to put young people’s ideas onto this wall and bring some more colour and creativity to central Armley. We’re painting the mural over the next two weekends and would love it if 11-17 yr olds, or adults in the area can spare an hour or two to help make it happen. Don’t forget to wear messy clothes!”
