From canal paths to chippy teas: Tasty tradition unites Bramley runners

by Paula Johnston

Wednesday evening brought a fresh flavour to the Bramley Breezers calendar – both literally and figuratively – as members laced up for a spirited outing with Birstall’s Go Be Runners.

The occasion? Their beloved annual Chip Shop Run, a tradition that blends fitness, friendship and fish suppers in one unforgettable 5K loop.

The origins of this quirky event trace back several years, when a friend of the Go Be running club and her husband became the proud owners of the Original Fisheries on Leeds and Bradford Road.

What began as a casual run to support a local business has since evolved into a cherished ritual: runners and walkers tracing a route down Leeds and Bradford road, along the scenic canal route and ending with a climb up Pollard Lane to finish with a well-earned chippy tea.

Last week’s edition saw an impressive turnout, with 51 runners from both clubs joining forces.

The atmosphere was wonderful as participants bonded over shared strides and salty chips.

Everyone agreed  the evening had been a triumph and the fish and chips were absolutely delicious, marking an end to an evening which celebrated community, camaraderie, and fun.
