The Friends of Horsforth Skatepark are inviting entries for a new competition to design a new community mural for the skatepark.
The friends group, a sub group of Friends Of Horsforth Hall Park, are welcoming submissions from artists with designs for the mural which reflect what the artist loves about the space with the theme of skateboarding, community, Hall Park and fun.
Entries to the competition will be judged by a panel of three, who are skateboarders and artists themselves.
The judges are Izzy Almond, a graphic designer, illustrator and the owner of Short Straw Skateboards, Joe Winters, a trainee mental health nurse & tattoo artist, and Ellen Scott, a tattoo and skateboard artist.
Entries should include the artwork on A3 along with a short description of the design. Judges will be looking for designs that are bold and stand out and “use colour, movement and energy”. They should also use the five colours provided.
All submissions for the competition will be displayed as part of Friends of Horsforth Skatepark’s next community event on Saturday, 19 July.
The Horsforth Skatepark Skate and Create event will run from 10am to 4pm and all are welcome to attend this friendly skate jam.

The day will include a “have a go” session between 10am and 1pm, especially for new skateboarders but also for more experienced local skaters to get advice and informal coaching from experts who can be spotted in their hi-vis.
An MOT service will be available throughout the day and locals are also invited to draw or craft their ideas for what could be built next at the skatepark. A raffle will also be held to raise funds for the future development of the skatepark and there will be music all day.
Between 1pm and 4pm all abilities will be welcome to join in the friendly skate jam with prizes and tickets for the raffle to be won.
The day’s events have been sponsored by Keendist, nbnumeric and Don’t Mess With Yorkshire.
For more information on the mural competition or to submit an entry email the Friends of Horsforth Skatepark.

This sounds fantastic! Brilliantly conceived! What a great community development of a community asset. The 19th should be a really good day for everyone involved.
