Farsley Celtic is launching a new look academy set-up which allow young players to train and play as semi-professional footballers, but with all the benefits of an educational qualification.
The full-time football programme will be partnered with a BTEC Sports Course run from the club’s home of Throstle Nest, providing the perfect balance when looking at further education options away from the classroom.
The club aims to provide a professional environment for the students, allowing them to concentrate on improving as players while having the support and facilities needed to continue their studies. The Club has partnered with Allerton Grange School, who will be delivering the educational element to the Academy.
Within the Academy the players will compete in the National League Under 19s Alliance League, which is regarded as one of the best youth competitions outside of the professional game and is regularly attended weekly by professional scouts. In addition, the team is entered into the prestigious FA Youth Cup.
James Knowles, Academy Head Coach, said:
“Farsley Celtic recognise that at the U16/U17 age groups a number of players stop playing football and it is our aim to help keep players interested in the beautiful game.
“The training sessions and matches would run throughout the week, leaving the players free to represent any parent club they play for on a weekend. The players will be monitored by new First-team manager Adam Lakeland, who is keen to give the Academy players the opportunity in a very successful First-team squad.”
Josh Greaves, CEO Farsley Celtic FC added:
“This is an exciting development for the Club and the long-term plan of progressing talent from the Academy to the first-team. We are also delighted to be able to work with Allerton Grange School as our Academy educational partner.”
Players interested in joining the Academy should attend a trial day at Throstle Nest on Saturday June 3 at 12.30pm, where the players will be able to demonstrate their talent along with finding out more information about the courses and how it will run.
