Farsley Celtic lack cutting edge in Ossett stalemate

Farsley Celtic were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by local rivals Ossett Albion in their latest pre-season friendly, writes Thomas Ritchie.

Farsley created the best chances whilst also keeping their second consecutive clean sheet, but lacked a cutting edge without forwards Adam Priestley and James Walshaw.

Isaac Baldwin came closest to breaking the deadlock in the first half as he played a swift one-two with Paul Walker on the left before cutting in and curling a fantastic effort onto the crossbar.

Ossett Albion then grew into the game and produced two opportunities in just three minutes.

Firstly, Callum Charlton found Brad Dockerty in the box, but his effort was well saved by Farsley ‘keeper Graeme McKibbin. Then James Eyles came close but his effort from the edge of the box went just wide of the upright.

A raft of changes in the second-half slowed the tempo of the game until Ossett came close midway through the half. A free-kick from out wide was turned goalwards before Farsley’s substitute goalkeeper Kyle Trenerry made a fine save as he turned the ball round the post.

The best chance of the game fell to The Celts shortly after. Luke Parkin’s free-kick from 20 yards out struck the base of the post and rebounded to Scott Smith who had the goal gaping in front of him, but he somehow managed to turn the ball into the arms of Albion shot stopper Aaron Murphy.

Scott Smith was then involved again as he found Ben Atkinson on the edge of the box, but he failed to hit the target as he fired wide.

The Celts had the final opportunity late on with a free-kick in a dangerous position, however Paul Walker’s low effort was comfortably held by Murphy.
