Farsley Celtic issue safety warning over vandalism

Farsley Celtic have issued a warning to youngsters who have broken into the club and caused damage to both the stand and the ticket gate this evening.

The club says at 5pm tonight a group of youths were on site at The Citadel ground when two teenagers were spotted jump on top of the stands, jumping on top of it until they eventually smashed the roof at ‘The Shed’ end.

A club statement on social media said: “A member of staff asked them to get down as it was unsafe and they proceeded to pick up shards of the roof and throw it at our staff. They eventually got down and ran off as the police were called.

“This could read a lot differently: ‘2 BOYS DEAD AFTER FALLING THROUGH THE ROOF AT FARSLEY CELTIC ‘ – this is the sad reality and gravity of the situation! Luckily neither boys have been harmed… on this occasion.

“The police have been notified of the incident, have been onsite and have CCTV footage of the boys in question.

“So once again we ask that you do not allow or encourage your young people to play around our site!

“We understand that the weather is warming up and your young person may want to play on our field however it is private property. It is select few who are taking advantage of this and creating situations like we have had today.”

The club has said no under 18s will be allowed in the ground over summer without an adult, toilets are for customer use only and any young person being a nuisance or putting themselves in danger will be asked to leave, with police called to escort them off the premises.
