Farsley Celtic fasce tough league cup test

Farsley face another tough test tomorrow as they travel to Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division side Ashton United in the Integro Doodson League Cup third round, writes Thomas Ritchie.

The Celts were knocked out at this stage last year by eventual runners up Scarborough, so will be hoping to avoid the same result.

Since the new Farsley club were reformed in 2010, The Celts have never crossed paths with Ashton United, which adds an extra level of intrigue for both sets of supporters ahead of tomorrow night’s clash.

The Celts will head into this game following superb back to back wins, defeating Scarborough Athletic and Glossop North End 4-1 which has lifted Farsley to second in the Evo-Stik Division 1 North.

Just one defeat has been suffered since the turn of the year in fact, a 3-2 defeat to table toppers Lancaster City. Farsley have reached this stage of the competition with a 4-2 victory over Ossett Albion back in November, before defeating Goole 5-2 at Throstle Nest at the end of January.

Chris Howarth was the star man with a hat-trick against Goole, but four different Celtic players were on the score sheet against Ossett.

Farsley will be without the services of Richard Marshall who is suspended following his dismissal against Scarborough last Tuesday, whilst central midfielder Peter Davidson is unavailable due to work commitments.

Ashton currently sit 14th in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division, and are yet to concede a goal in this competition.

In the first round they defeated Warrington Town 2-0, before progressing to the third round after a 1-0 triumph over Northwich Victoria. However there recent form has been worrying, with just one win in their last four, a 3-1 victory over Sutton Coldfield Town.

In their most recent game on Saturday they were comfortably defeated 4-1 by Barwell, a side Farsley defeated in the early stages of the FA Trophy this season. They have no apparent injury concerns.

The game takes place at Hurst Cross, postcode OL6 8DY. The game kicks off at 7.45pm and admission prices are £10 adults, £6 concessions and free for U14s.

If you can’t make the game there will be full updates on our Twitter account which is @FarsleyCelticFC.
