Farsley Celtic continued their fine start to pre-season with a 3-0 friendly win against a lively Eccleshill United side.
Three second half goals from Ryan Watson, new signing Robbie Fox and youngster Thomas Priestley-Standing capped off a fine display from Clayton Donaldson’s side, following their 6-1 win at Dearne & District on Saturday.
The home side started well and caused problems for the visitors’ back line, with Farsley’s triallist keeper making a decent early stop. But it was the National League North visitors who gained control of the match as the half wore on, gaffer Clayton Donaldson going closest. Alex Kiwomya and the influential Ryan Watson also had chances.
The Celts changed most of their starting XI at half time and it took Watson just five minutes of the second half to make his mark when his low shot from the edge of the area found the bottom left corner.
The Celts came close to extending their lead when Joao Silva’s rasping drive was parried by the busy Eccleshill keeper, before Sam Leverett’s rebound was also saved.
On 80 minutes it was game over as Robbie Fox hit his first goal in a Farsley shirt with a fine finish inside the area. Five minutes later the home side thought they had found a way back into the game when they were awarded a penalty, but the triallist keeper superbly saved the spot kick to maintain his clean sheet.
A good performance was capped off when Thomas Priestley-Standing fired home off the underside of the bar with the last kick of the game.
In all it was a decent pre-season workout for Farsley against hard-working opponents.
The Celts will look to continue their fine start this weekend when they make the trip to Northern Premier League side Bridlington Town, which could see them go up against former striker Michael Coulson, who left the Citadel last month.
