Farsley Celtic battle to 0-0 draw against Spennymoor

Injury hit Farsley Celtic battled to a creditable goalless draw against promotion hopefuls Spennymoor at The Citadel.

The Celts were without eight of their first team squad either through injury or suspension and the lads gave their all to stretch their unbeaten run to four games unbeaten in the league.

New signing Jack Evans made an accomplished debut in defensive midfield and the Celts welcomed back stopper Zan Luk Leban from international duty.

The visitors settled the better of the two teams, but it was The Celts who had the first real chance of the game after 16 minutes. Great interplay between Smith and Wadsworth released Joao Silva on the left. He fired at the near post, forcing a strong save from Spennymoor keeper Michael Roxburgh.

In a game of few chances, it was Farsley who again would go close just before half time. Ryan Watson floated a cross in from a deep free kick, Rudy Misambo headed it across goal but it just evaded the on-coming Joao Silva.

The Celts came close again two minutes after half time, when Youmbi raced onto a loose pass but Roxburgh cleared with his feet.

On the hour mark it was the visitors who had the best chance of the game so far when Harris raced through but somehow put the ball a couple of yards wide with only Leban to beat. It was a major let off for The Celts.

Both teams looked leggy in the closing stages as a hectic fixture list started to catch up with the players.

But with just nine minutes left Farsley had a great chance to win it. The lively Youmbi raced through one on one with the keeper and cut on to his left foot to finish, only for Roxburgh to block the shot.

It was the last chance of the game as the match ended with tired players and a flurry of substitutions.

A draw was about the right result in the end.
