Farsley Celtic will be looking to return to winning ways on Saturday, as Yorkshire rivals Scarborough Athletic travel to the Citadel.
The newly-promoted Seadogs have enjoyed a flying start to life in the National League North, and a 2-1 victory over Blyth Spartans on Bank Holiday Monday has seen Jonathan Greening’s side climb up to fourth.
Farsley manager Russ Wilcox feels his side’s performances so far have warranted a higher position in the table, saying: “I’m disappointed for the players, they put so much into the weekend and we’ve picked up one point, for me it should have been four. But it’s not, and that’s sport, that’s football.
“I’ve spoken to the group and said we need to have more belief, there’s nothing to fear in this league really, we can compete against any team in this league but we need that belief, maybe that comes from last season.”
This will be the Celts’ first competitive meeting with Scarborough since we were both in the Northern Premier League in 2018/19, with Farsley actually getting the better of the North Yorkshire side on three occasions that year.
Wilcox continued: “They’re doing really well, I know Jonathan Greening and [Michael] Coulson from my York City days, Jono’s done a fantastic job there.
“You look at all the teams that have got promoted, it is momentum at times, you’ve got that feel-good factor.
“You’ve come into a new league, you’re probably not expected to do well, the pressure’s off a little bit, and they’re going well at the moment, so we know it’s going to be a real difficult game.”
